why does the one on the left go counter clockwise and the right one go clockwise?

The mass on the left results in a torque that's counterclockwise since the mass is positioned on the left side of the fulcrum. This says nothing about which direction it "goes", just that the direction of torque (which has similarities with force) is counterclockwise.
