Problem 48
Q

2757Co{^{57}_{27}\textrm{Co}} emits 122-keV γ\gamma rays. If a 65-kg person swallowed 1.55  μCi1.55 \; \mu\textrm{Ci} of 2757Co{^{57}_{27}\textrm{Co}}, what would be the dose rate (Gy/day) averaged over the whole body? Assume that 50% of the γ\gamma-ray energy is deposited in the body. [Hint: Determine the rate of energy deposited in the body and use the definition of the gray.]

A
7.4×107 kg7.4 \times 10^{-7} \textrm{ kg}
