This is Giancoli Answers with Mr. Dychko. So, our job here is to figure out which redline to follow because any sound along a single redline, all has the same perceived loudness level. And so when we look at the 100 hertz tone with a 50 decibel sound level, it lands on the red line labeled 20 phons. And so we follow that same red line to 5,000 hertz and the sound level is about 20 decibels and so there's our answer, the same perceived loudness level as the 100 hertz tone with 50 decibels will be at 5,000 hertz with only 20 decibels.
