This is Giancoli Answers with Mr. Dychko. Period is the amount of time for one cycle but you can take the amount of time for any number of cycles you like you can take it to have 50 seconds for 28 cycles and when you divide them you'll end up with the number of seconds per cycle. So, that's 1.8 seconds per cycle and that's the period. For frequency, it's the number of cycles per time and 28 cycles or 50 seconds gives you the amount of, number of cycles per second which is 0.56 hertz.
