This is Giancoli Answers with Mr. Dychko. The minimum power output of this water pump is going to be equal to the minimum amount of work to raise it up some height of 3 and a half meters and that minimum work will be equal to its weight times by the height and the weight is 27 kilograms times 9.8 newtons per kilogram and that's every minute this mass of water is pumped so that gives us our time; it's going to be 1 minute times 60 seconds per minute because we have to convert that into seconds and this all works out to 15.4 watts.
