Hi, I keep getting messed up on the direction of the horizontal forces in incline problems.... Can you please throughly explain why you made both the friction force and the applied force going up the incline?

if you consider figure, just assume that applied force is not given, piano will slide towards the man. so friction force is opposite to the moving direction of piano
